CASE 2

This patient's main concern was that her upper and lower jaw wouldn't fit. The patient had a noticeable asymmetry, with the lower jaw skewed to the right side. There was a significant imbalance of the upper and lower jaws in forward-backward direction, and the upper jaw was also too narrow to accommodate the lower jaw. The patient wanted to have braces and surgery to correct it.

CASE 1

*

The patient presented to the clinic saying that he would like to improve his smile. The patient had tried a technique called palatal expansion with another doctor earlier, but turned out to be unsuccessful.

He also had two missing teeth and the baby teeth were still in place. The patient also showed other problems such as open bite or an insufficient overbite between the upper an the lower teeth.

The treatment philosophy of the orthodontist and the quality of care can only be proven by showing the results of the treatment. Here, Dr. Sung presents the treatment results of the patients that he has treated to improve the understanding of different orthodontic treatments and the outcome. Most of these cases have been reviewed and evaluated by other orthodontic specialists.

Please understand that the photos of the patients in this educational section are used with the approval of the patient to provide more information to the potential patients that are in need of treatments. They cannot be used for any other purpose.

The case was treated with a device called MARPE to achieve the palatal epansion, and the missing teeth were replaced with the adjacent ones, which is called canine substitution. The patient was finished with ideal relationship betwen the upper and the lower teeth. No one would realize that the patient doesn't have two front teeth.

The patient went through skeletal expansion of the upper jaw using the MARPE device, and the upper and lower teeth were positioned to the favorable position. A lower jaw surgery was done to correct the underlying structural problem of the jaw. The patient's facial profile was also improved and the patient was happy about the decision to get surgery.

CASE 3

A 16 year old patient came to the office, expressing that she would like to straighten her teeth. The patient showed a one-sided cross-bite and a deep-bite with significant crowding on the lower front teeth. Both the upper and lower teeth were tipped back.

The patient had a Hyrax device to widen the upper jaw, and a bite turbo was attached to the teeth to remove the deep-bite. With a mild reshaping of the lower front teeth and uprighting of them allowed the resolution of the crowding. The patient was finished with a stunning smile.

CASE 4

This patient's main concern was that she would like to have a beautiful smile. The patient sill had baby teeth and presented a deep bite with severe crowding. The patient had a small lower jaw that caused her to have in a week chin and a big overbite. The right side of her bite was not fitting properly.

A hyrax device was used to correct the transverse problem of the upper jaw, while the lower back teeth were held by a device called a lingual holding arch. Using the size difference between the baby teeth and the adult teeth, the crowding could be resolved. The change of the environment allowed the lower jaw to freely come forward, which had a positive effect on the facial esthetics and the bite.

CASE 5

This 14 year old boy came to the clinic with he mother expressing her

concern about the open bite. The boy also presented spacing between

the teeth. His facial aesthetics was impaired due to the improper positioning of the front teeth, and the he was unable to maintain normal  function of the

orofacial musculature.

The patient had to wear a device that prevented the tongue from interrupting the proper teeth alignment. At a later stage, braces were

worn and the teeth were brought together with an ideal relationship.

As a result of the orthodontic treatment and neuromusculature therapy,

the patient was able to stop pushing the tongue into the gap betwen teeth, too.

CASE 6

This patient came to a consultation expressing that she would like to show straight teeth when she smiles. The patient had small lower jaw, which made it difficult for the lower teeth to be aligned. The upper second teeth, on the other hand were small on both right and left, causing a mismatch between the upper and the lower teeth. The patient also had dark shadows at the corner of the mouth, compromising the overall aesthetics of the face.

With a careful diagnosis, the patient had only one tooth extracted, and the crowded teeth were unraveled. The ideal relationship between the upper and the lower teeth needed to be restored, and micro-implants were used to achieve this goal. The patient was finished with a full smile and a perfectly

aesthetic result.
